Chapter 1: Xidran Kage
I, Sibyl Dox, am traveling to the only true safe haven in the universe for Dusk Shadows, known as The Shadows. For those of you whom read this journal, you need to know more about us children of moonlight and darkness before I can go any further. First off, there are two families that make up the Dusk Shadows. The Gifted whom are all children of a full moon, and The Cursed, whom are all children of the night, or ‘new moon’ as Lavitz (outsiders) call it.
Both families are led by twenty-six leaders, all together known as The Council. Two council members from each family rule over one month of the year together. Individually, each leader, even if they rule over the same month together, affects a Dusk Shadow child`s powers heavily and are known by 'Mother' or 'Father'; by their children underneath their rule. They also, individually are known only by a title.
As for when these abilities show in Dusk Shadow children; however they show (it`s different for each Dusk Shadow child), they usually begins to stir around four years old and then come into their majority around thirteen years old. At the point these abilities show, a highly ranked Dusk Shadow (such as myself) goes and gets the child. After finding and getting the child they explain to the child what is happening to them along with where they are bringing them and why it`s important to do so. They do all of this while making headway to The Shadows. Once in The Shadows, the child gets tested so both The Council and the other, older Dusk Shadows know whom the child`s 'Mother' or 'Father' is. The child also takes on a new life by taking on a new name, given to them by the Dusk Shadow that had lead then to The Shadows. However, once the child is brought into The Shadows, the can never return home.
Don`t get me wrong, it`s a harsh reality that many newly found Dusk Shadows find hard to accept. In the end; however, it is better off that they stay in The Shadows. Trust me, they will always be more accepted in here abundantly more than out of The Shadows because of the slight glow that over takes our body ( more powerful Dusk Shadows only have their eyes glow, lucky bastards) when moonlight hits us. Our strange powers are another reason. If any outsider saw the glow from any Dusk Shadow, I know for certain that they would be experimented and tested on for the rest of their life. I`ve seen it. My friend, now deceased, was one of the unlucky few that were seen by Lavitz, she was only seven years old when they took her forcedly and poked and prodded her; until one of their tests killed her by stopping her heart with some kind of electric shock wave. She died instantly. At least, in The Shadows, all the children are safe. Isolated from the rest of the universe, yes, but it`s much better off than the alternative.
Now, as for The Shadows, it`s a sub-universe, said to of been made before time itself began, connected to the universe Lavitz know and love. However, The Shadows opens only when night falls and caresses everything around us. As for the trouble of Lavitz possibly getting in, we don`t know how but they seem to be directed away from the opening, no matter what. For a Dusk Shadow, it lets them in and inside The Shadows, it truly is beautiful. A sight to see, it`s filled with rainforests made of shimmering starlight, all different colors, scattered across the tranquil landscape. In some spots, you can find waterfalls, lakes, and rivers, filled with the bluest of blues for water (which endlessly reflects the never setting moon`s light onto the night dew sitting on all plants). A slight breeze blows softly throughout The Shadows, glowing like a big band of fireflies. The breeze is filled with hopeful messages and news for all The Dusk Shadows, keeping us all connected. As for animals, there are thousands of different kinds of animals (most hidden amongst the trees, caves and mountains). Some sound like the soft movement of legs from grasshoppers, others sound like rain or many varieties or even thunder. For those animals that are more easily seen in the shadows, they can range from being filled with starlight, mist, moonlight or water. Very few have been seen that look as if they are made from The Shadows around them. Personally, my favorite animal that walks with such grace in The Shadows is quite reminiscent of the Lavitz` Pokémon, known as Sucinine.
However, through the middle of The Shadows is a road the color of a singular candle`s dim light, it even flickers as if some hidden flame is burning somewhere, hidden away. This candle flame-like lighted road leads to a star, known as Hecate’s Lantern. This ‘lantern-star’ sits on top of the massive and ancient Echo Academy, where all Dusk Shadows live and learn to harness their abilities and how to protect themselves. Along with how to fight our mortal enemies, The Heavenly Whispers.
You see, The Heavenly Whispers have been our enemies since twin sisters, one a Dusk Shadow and the other a heavenly Whisper, started the war with hate. They killed half of their children with the opposing power. At least, that`s what the legend is surrounding the twins. Nowadays, younger Dusk Shadows believe that the twins were tricked into starting the war, but by whom and why is a complete mystery. They seemed to never be able to agree on whom and why. The only people who really know what actually happened between or to the twins is The Council and the Heavenly Whisper`s Coven, but like any of them will tell a soul, no one knows why.
As for myself (now that you know more information about us Dusk Shadows), I am the eldest child of The Dragonfly, the Mother of the rare Blue Moon and current leader of The Council. Because I am the eldest child of The Dragonfly, until a new leader is chosen for The Council, I am tasked with being the main teacher for all the young Dusk Shadow children. However, today, I am tasked with something more honorable. I am bringing a newly found Dusk Shadow child to The Shadows. Having answered all of his questions and explained his situations I and him are to learn whom is his ‘Mother’ or ‘Father’ quite soon. I am not worried for him though, I have sensed that he is already quite powerful for his age and because of such, I expect great things from this young Dusk Shadow. He will fit in fine with the others, I`m sure. He will easily be able to make a new family amongst us. So, from this day forth, as he strides towards The Council and starts his new life with his true family, he will no longer be known by his Lavitz name of Vane, but as Xidran Kage.
